In 1356 at the Battle of Poitiers, King John II of France was captured by the army of the Black Prince. There followed  a period of anarchy in France.

John Stanley was present at the Battle of Poitiers and was deeply involve in the subsequent efforts to impose a peaceful solution on the warring factions.

Ximene was also involved, but in no official capacity.
