The Solstice at Monsgur

Other Places

Sunrise on the 21st June.

0n the morning of the summer solstice as the sun rises it lines up with the arrow slits in Chateau Monsegur

There is then the question of the alignment of the sun as it rises on the summer solstice (the twenty-first of June). There are those who are sceptical about the alignment of the windows which allows the first rays of the sun to pass through the Château. I cannot imagine why they are sceptical. Sunrise on the 21st June when the clouds assemble below the peak of Monsegur.

Every year a relatively large number of people witness this event and it has been well documented. It requires a signifiant amont of effort to make it possible to see the effect and indeed to observe the effect first hand. The floor of the room in which the effect occurs has long since collapsed so scaffolding has to be erected to make it possible to see the effect as it used to be.

Because it all happens at dawn  it is necessary to make the climb the night before. It is not an easy climb and there are no lights to offer assistance. Family groups camp overnight. Try to check in advance as the necessary preparations are not made every year.

There is absolutely no way to talk this through. One moment it is dark and then a dazzling light. What now happens is  also as if it is a character in our story. If you have not seen it for yourself- unbelievable.
