Known as “the port of Aquitaine”. Traditionally this is the border between Occitan (Toulouse) and Aquitaine. It is where the precious goods from the East, which had been carried from the Mediterranean up the Val du Midi were transhipped on their way to Bordeaux. Today it is the home for a thriving Occitan publishing house perhaps a reflection that today’s Occitan nationalists believe that Aquitaine is part of Occitan not the other way round.
