Suscinio was the seat of the Dukes of Brittany. In the war to gain control of Brittany in the 1350’s Joan of Kent’s husband, Thomas Holland was commander of the English forces. Joan was sent to join him, possibly to limit the scandals she continually caused at court. She determined however to live separately from her husband and took over suscinio. It was a good choice, Suscinio was and still is a delightful place to live.
