It is by no means sure that Rome “fell”. One interpretation of events was that the migrations of the fifth century were encouraged with the deliberate intention of eliminating the ambitions for self goverment by groups of Celts.
Another interpretation is that there was a deliberate metamorphosis to a different form of governement, which was used by the church of Rome for its own ends.
The various civil wars which resulted from this manipulation were more about the church encouraging those who offered to adhere to their teaching that it was about massive invasions, even though the movement of peoples did occur.
