In an earlier life I was trained as scientist. Scientists work by developing theories and then testing them against reality. The very best scientists are brutal in searching for areas in which there are weaknesses in their theories. They know that if they are not someone else will be.

The developing of theories is the creative, enjoyable part. The testing against reality is hard work and potentially soul destroying as testing reveals serious flaws in the most enticing theory.
